Clyde Valley Hawks 30 v 6 Inverclyde Sharks
The Hawks rounded off their regular season and maintained their hundred percent record with this victory over a battling Sharks outfit. With both sides finding it hard to establish a passing game due to the high wind it was hardly surprising that the ground game came to the fore. A Craig McMillan nine-yard burst opened the home side's account in the first quarter with the trusty boot of Tom Chapman nailing the two extra points. Early in the second McMillan blasted in from five yards out to increase the lead, with Chapman again slotting home the extra two to leave the Scottish Division Champions in a 16 - 0 lead at the end of the second.
Both sides found it hard going in the third period with defenses reigning supreme and it was not until the fourth that McMillan sped in virtually untouched from twenty eight yards to increase Clyde Valley's comfort zone to 22 - 0. The Sharks gave themselves a lifeline with a stunning sixty-three yard dash to the end zone by Gary Clark. However their rally was short lived as Ben Hann broke through the line and found his way in to score from forty-five yards on a quarterback keeper. Chapman once again kicked the extra points to complete the scoring. Hawks now face old rivals North Lanarkshire Rams in the playoffs.
North Lanarkshire Rams 40 v 8 Glasgow Tigers
The Rams had the second spot in the Scottish Conference sewn up by midway through the second quarter as they saw off a combative Glasgow outfit. Adam Donaldson blasted in from four yards out to edge the Rams into a first quarter lead, with Paul McGovern kicking the extra points. A five yard run by Martin Wallace padded the lead to give them a 14 - 0 advantage at the end of the first.
Donaldson added to his tally early in the second quarter when he jinked in from eleven yards out with McGovern again slotting the extra two to stretch the lead to 20 - 0. With David Hare downing the Tigers running back in his own end zone North Lanarkshire added another two points, while Donaldson snatched his hat trick by darting in from the twenty to find pay dirt. McGovern once more booted the extra two. The Tigers responded almost immediately when William McLoughlin hit wide out Derek Russell for a twenty-five yard score, with McLoughlin kicking the extra two, but the Glasgow outfit trailed 30 - 8 at half time.
David O'Rourke hit Martin Wallace in the end zone from twenty yards out and Paul McGovern added the extra two as the Rams moved further ahead in the third. David Hare increased his personal tally by another six when he barreled in from the three. Another kick by McGovern completed North Lanarkshire's work for the afternoon.
