Clyde Valley Hawks 40 v North Lanarkshire Rams 8
This game sealed the Scotland Conference for Clyde Valley and gained them home field advantage, which will probably see them matched up once again with the Rams on the way to the final.
Defenses very much dominated in the first quarter with both sides forcing turnovers on successive drives. Hawks’ Gary Orr picked off a wayward Rams pass for the third turnover of the afternoon to give the Hawks possession at the half way line. QB Ben Hann connected with Tam Chapman who carried the ball to the end zone. Chapman kicked the extra points to give the Hawks an 8 - 0 lead at the end of the first.
The Hawks doubled their advantage in the second when Lee Nelson carried the ball 16 yards to the end zone. Chapman once again nailing the kick. The Rams quickly struck back when QB David O’Rouke linked up on a 69-yard pass to Martin Wallace for the score. Paul McGovern added the extra two points with his kick to reduce the arrears. Hawks then began to dominate the game, with Craig McMillan scoring on a rumbling 31 yard run. Chapman once again added the extra points when he held onto a Gary Orr pass. With Glen Chapman also picking off the Rams QB, Clyde Valley took a healthy 24 - 8 lead into the break.
In the second half the Hawks broke the spirit of the Rams when Andy Reynolds intercepted a pass from thirty yards out and took it back for a score. Nelson added his second score of the day, on an 8-yard blast and Chapman obliged with the kick. Hawks domination began to show when Phil Moran carried the ball 35 yards to set up a three yard touchdown strike to Lee Collins. Chapman kicked the extra points once more to round off the scoring at the end of the third.
