Handforth Hammerheads 32 v BAFC Harrogate Hawks 0
The Hawks returned from a successful summer camp in Oregon to be completely swamped by a vastly more experienced Hammerhead outfit.
Both teams found the early going tough, with Handforth eventually breaking the deadlock with a 1-yard touchdown run by fullback James Lynch. Ford Wilding added the 2-point conversion. The score remained at 8-0 until the Hammerheads offense opened up the floodgates scoring three 2nd quarter touchdowns. First Quarterback Ric Hennessy scored on a 31-yard keeper and added the conversion. Then Ford Wilding got in on the act snaring a 31-yard TD reception from Hennessy for the score before notching his second conversion of the day. Wilding padded his tally with another 31-yard touchdown grab with Simon Millichip adding the 2 points before the half expired
The spirited Harrogate team refused to utilise the mercy rule, came out for the second half and battled on. Despite moving the ball quite effectively though, they were unable to crack a resolute Handforth defence. Ultimately the day belonged to the Hammerheads and their explosive offense. Ford Wilding scored his 3rd touchdown of the day before Ric Hennessy capped off a fine performance with a 70 yard run. In spite of the one-sided scoreline Harrogate were a credit to the sport and themselves by continuing to battle in the second half and showing great character, resolution and determination.
