Clyde Valley Hawks 36 v 8 North Lanarkshire Rams

The weather played a large part in this Scottish Championship game, with a strong icy wind forcing both teams to rely on their running game. Hawks started with the ball but a strong Rams defense forced a fumble, which gave them possession on the Hawks 40 yard, but were unable to take advantage. The conditions and solid defenses kept the sides scoreless at the end of the first period.

Hawks’ Craig MacMillan barreled 36 yards to set up the go ahead score at the start of the second allowing QB Mark McKenzie to finish the drive with a 1 yard QB keeper. Tam Chapman booted the extra points to pad out the 8 - 0 advantage. On the Rams next drive Lee Collins forced a fumble, which John Devoy recovered. Hawks took full advantage when Lee Collins caught a twenty-eight yard pass from Mark McKenzie to score and extend the lead to 14 - 0. Clyde Valley edged further ahead before the break when Craig MacMillan blasted in from eight yards out to leave the score at 20 - 0.

The second half began as the first, with both teams unable to make any real progress until late in the third quarter when Collins hauled in an eleven yard pass to notch a further six. Lee Nelson smashed his way in to add the extra two as Clyde Valley advanced to 28 - 0.

An eleven-yard dash by Nelson put the game beyond the battling Rams with Paul Shanta nailing the extra points. However the Rams' never give up attitude got its reward on the next drive. Martin Wallace took the ball, broke tackles and scorched up the sidelines from seventy yards out to score. Paul McGovern was his normal sure self for the extra two points. Battle as they did the Rams could not claw their way back into the game and Clyde Valley retained their Scottish Championship for a second year.

Bath Cardinals 8 v Lancashire Wolverines 14

Once again last year's English finalists found themselves in a tight tension packed game. These two evenly matched sides battled each other to a virtual standstill in the first quarter, with neither side giving an inch.

The Cardinals drew first blood in the second period when a reverse and then pass found Tom Evans in the end zone. Bath drove down to the Wolverines fifteen yard line to set up a field goal attempt on their next drive only for the kick to blocked, scooped up Chris Littler who promptly outpaced the opposition to bring the Wolverines back to 6 - 2 by the half.

A swarming Bath defense restored the advantage to six points when they down the Wolverines quarterback in the end zone. Fierce tackling by the Lancashire outfit, especially from Jonathan Kohler, who ended the day with thirteen tackles and a sack kept the English Division Champions at bay for the rest of the third quarter.

The Wolverines blasted back in the fourth when Littler went in from the one to tie the scores at 8 - 8. As the fourth quarter wore on Sam Fogg showed his exceptional talents and team leadership skills, hauling in a total of five passes in the final minutes as the Wolverines sought the winner. In their earlier league meeting the Wolverines were denied victory by a disallowed touchdown in the final five seconds but football has a way of twisting and turning. With the ball on the Bath one-yard line Matt Lord blasted in to avenge the seasons earlier heartbreak and set up an intriguing Championship game with Clyde Valley Hawks at Ram Stadium, Dewsbury, on December 19th
