1.1 Responsibilities
The BYAFA recognises that it has a responsibility to:

  • Implement procedures to provide a duty of care to young people, safeguard their well being, and protect them from abuse.
  • Respect and promote the rights, wishes and feelings of young people.
  • Safeguard and protect young people from abuse, and protect volunteers against false allegations.
  • Require that all member organisations adopt and abide by the BYAFA Welfare Policy and Procedures and incorporated the Codes of Ethics and Conduct.
  • Respond to all allegations of poor practice or abuse appropriately.
  • Implement the appropriate disciplinary and appeals procedures.
  • It is the responsibility of BYAFA to:

  • Appoint a Welfare Officer who will be the main contact for all matters concerning Child Protection.
  • Produce a Child Protection Policy.
  • Promote and publicise the Policy.
  • Review the Policy biannually and when legislation, governance or procedural changes are introduced/ modified.
  • Implement CRB & CRBS disclosure checks
  • Make decisions on, and record all reported cases of misconduct.
  • Appoint a disciplinary panel when necessary.
  • Ensure disciplinary decisions are notified to the appropriate individuals and bodies, and are acted upon.
  • It is the responsibility of the BYAFA Welfare Officer to:

  • Implement and promote the BYAFA Child Policy and Procedures.
  • Regularly report to the Committee.
  • Act as the main contact within BYAFA for the protection of young people.
  • Provide information and advice on the protection of young people.
  • Support and raise awareness of the protection of young people.
  • Communicate with BYAFA member organisations on issues of child protection.
  • Keep abreast of developments and understand the latest information on data protection, confidentiality and other legal issues concerning the protection of young people.
  • Encourage the support of procedures to protect young people.
  • Establish and maintain contact with local statutory agencies including the Police and Social Work Department.
  • Maintain confidential records of reported cases and action taken.
  • Liase with the statutory agencies and ensure they have access to all necessary information.
  • Regularly monitor and review the Policy and Procedures and make recommendations for updating to the Committee.
  • It is the responsibility of BYAFA member Organisations to:

  • Designate a Club Welfare Officer who will act as first point of contact for concerns relating to the welfare of young people.
  • Produce a Child Protection Policy.
  • Recognise the responsibilities of the Committee and Officers of the Club.
  • Ensure all members fully accept their duty of care responsibilities.
  • Ensure all members comply with disclosure requirements.
  • Ensure that all reported allegations of poor practice or abuse are managed in line with BYAFA policy.
