Position of Trust

All adults working with young people are in a position of trust that has been invested in them by the parents, the young people and the sport. By virtue of the role the adult is one in which one party is in a position of power and authority over another. Although it is recognised that genuine relationships can occur, no intimate relations should take place whilst a member is in a position of trust.

Engaging in an intimate or inappropriate relationship with a young person is deemed as a breach of the BYAFA Codes of Conduct. Any allegations will be investigated according to the BYAFA disciplinary procedures.

Young people aged sixteen to eighteen can legally consent to certain types of sexual activity. However under certain provisions they are classified as children. In some circumstances the abuse of a position of trust is a criminal offence.
