Practice Never To Be Sanctioned

The following should never be sanctioned. You should never:

  • Take a young person, or persons, to your home or secluded places where you will be alone with them.
  • Engage in rough, physical or sexually provocative games such as horseplay.
  • Participate in any games or training sessions with young people. If there is need for an adult to facilitate learning through the use of coaching aids it should be done with the utmost care, with due regards given to the safety and well being of the young participants
  • Share a room with a child or invite or allow children to stay with you at your home unsupervised.
  • Allow or engage in any form of inappropriate touching.
  • Make sexually suggestive comments to children, even in fun.
  • Use inappropriate language, or allow inappropriate language to go unchallenged.
  • Allow allegations made by a child to go unchallenged, unrecorded, or not acted upon.
  • Depart premises until all young people have been dispersed safely.
  • Resort to bully tactics or verbal abuse.
  • Cause a young person to loose self-esteem.
  • Allow the use of alcohol or illegal substances.
  • It is accepted that there are occasions the unexpected does occur. If any of the following occur it should be reported immediately to another colleague and make a written record. See Section 2- Incident Report Form

    The parents of the child must also be informed.
  • You accidentally hurt a young person.
  • A young person appears distressed in any manner
  • A young person appears to be sexually aroused by your actions
  • A young person misunderstands or misinterprets something you have done.
