Neglect

A failure to meet a young person's basic physical and/or psychological needs, likely to result in the serious impairment of the young person's health or development. For example failure to provide adequate food, shelter and clothing, failing to protect a child from physical harm or danger, or the failure to ensure access to appropriate medical care or treatment.
Neglect in sport could include not ensuring children are safe by:

  • Leaving young people alone without proper supervision.
  • Exposing young people to undue cold or heat without providing protection or fluids.
  • Exposing young people to unnecessary risk of injury.
