The Warriors duly completed the expected double over the neighbouring Blitz but their opponents did at
least have the satisfaction of being only the second side to score against them this season. Indeed, not
only did they score but managed to do so first when Yusaf Topal nailed a thirty-three yard field goal to
give them an unexpected lead.
The lead was short lived, in fact as short as it possibly can be, with Jermaine Ford collecting the kick
off and darting through a porous Blitz special teams unit for a seventy-five yard score. With the
conversion added the National Champions were 8 – 3 ahead. A gutsy Blitz side proved their mettle, holding
their illustrious visitors to the same score as the first quarter came to an end.
A Dominic Farrell one yard blast notched a further six points for the Warriors and with conversion again
being good they eased out to a 16 – 3 lead. Dayle Greenfield, elevated to starting quarterback for this
game then hit tight end Matt Russell for a forty-five yard score in what was the play of the game.
Failing to gain the extra two points the Warriors had cruised to a comfortable 22 – 3 lead at the half
while the Blitz had proved that their progress over this campaign had been more than sufficient to show
promise for next year.
The home side fumbled away the kick off at the start of the second half giving the Warriors excellent
field position. Greenfield, who would end the day with over 150 yards passing and three touchdowns, then
connected with Mike Green from five yards out to edge the score out to 28 – 3. The same combination
struck again later in the quarter, this time Green clawing in a twenty-five yard strike. The two extra
points were duly tacked onto the score with the Warriors now 36 – 3 clear. Rookie Daniel Menshi scampered
in from eighteen yards out before the end of the third period to increase the Warrior lead to 42 – 3.
In the fourth Jerome Allen took over at quarterback, linking up with Green from twenty-five yards for
another scoring strike and then adding another score to his favourite receiver for nineteen yards.
Green’s figures for the afternoon were highly impressive as he notched up four scores and over a hundred
yards receiving. With Green’s final twelve points the Warriors had passed the fifty points mark to run out
winners at 54 – 3.
The Blitz were by no means disgraced by this score line. They played hard and never once looked like
giving up. With such an attitude and with their history along with the coaching talent around them,
they will be back stronger and more competitive next season and will undoubtedly be vying for honours.
With the news that the Spartans have had to concede their final fixture to the Warriors the defending
champions have claimed the South East Conference title and can now plan on ther next stage of defending
their title.
