The Devils maintained their 100% record in the South Eastern Conference with a hard fought battle against the
Kent Exiles, a side many considered capable of mounting a serious challenge this season. However so far the
Devils have proved to be the surprise team, not conceding a touchdown in their first two outings and proving
they are building a resilient defense.
On a day when defenses seemed to be able to score as easily as offenses, it was the Devils who notched the
first score when they swarmed all over the Exiles quarterback and felled him in his own end zone to claim two
points for a safety. The rest of the quarter remained uneventful, with neither offense being able to press
home any real advantage a keenly fought game moved into the second quarter with the score still 0 – 2 to the
visitors.
The Devils offense slipped up a gear in the second quarter when quarterback James Tovell hit wide receiver
Carl Snapp in the end zone to increase the Norfolk side’s lead. With the extra two point conversion being
successful the Devils took a 10 – 0 advantage into half time.
The third and fourth quarters proved both defenses were unbeatable, the Exiles managing to get onto the
scoreboard themselves with a safety when the hauled the Norwich running back to the ground in his own end zone.
After two games the Devils sit proudly at the head of the South East conference. Admittedly it is early days
at the moment but they have proved that after a few years away they do not intend to be pushovers and will be
a match for anyone. The Exiles, now they have a competitive game under their belt will be intent on showing
that the progress they have made over the last two years can be maintained and bettered.
