The Warriors kept up their challenge for the South Eastern Conference title with another comprehensive
victory against an Exile side that made them fight every inch of the way.
The game remained close in the first quarter, the sides being split by a Calvin Bryan six-yard sprint
off tackle to give the National Champions the edge. A fifteen yard fullback dive from Ike Okonkwu early
in the second put the London side further ahead and with Dave Dooner nailing the kick for the two point
conversion they eased out to 14 – 0. On the Warriors next drive Jerome Allen connected with rookie
receiver Mike Green for a thirty five yard touchdown and this was quickly followed by a further six
points when Max Silberhorn took a twenty yard interception back for a score. As the half expired the
visitors had settled into a comfortable 26 – 0 lead.
The Exiles came battling back in the third quarter managing to keep the Warriors in check. Bryan on
an eight yard jinking run plus a Dooner conversion were the only further points the Warriors could amass.
In the fourth quarter, wide out Green hauled in a thirty-five yard touchdown reception from up and
coming quarterback Dayle Greenfield to stretch the lead out to 42 – 0 but the icing on the cake was
provided by Jamie Nelson. He latched onto a stray Exile pass, and with the help of his defensive team
mates who provided some determined blocking for him, scooted away for a full eighty yards for the final
score of the afternoon.
The Exiles once more played with spirit and enthusiasm and refused to surrender. They are a side that
is committed to the long haul and will eventually mature into one of the better sides in the nation.
The Warriors have the retention of their national title to defend and look increasingly likely to do so,
although there are some good sides lying in wait for them down the road. Their immediate goal is the
rematch with the Norwich Devils, the only side to inflict a defeat on them in three years.
