This was a game neither the Exiles nor the Blitz dared lose if they wanted to keep their playoff chances
alive and was reflected in the opening two quarters when they played cautious percentage football. As the
halftime score line of 0 – 0 suggests the first two periods were totally dominated by defense; a football
war of attrition.
In the third quarter the ruthless pounding of the Exiles ground game began to bear fruit wearing down a
game Blitz side. Forcing their way downfield the more experienced Kent side let if to Shillabeer to
squeeze in for the opening score and settle the nerves of the home side. Failing to add the extra two
points, they continued to meet with stiff resistance from the Blitz who limited them to the 6 – 0 as the
third period expired.
The Exiles continued with the running game in the fourth with Shillabeer breaking free from twelve yards
to record his second score of the day and give his side a little more breathing space. The two point kick
added further room as Kent extended the margin to 14 – 0. A powerful run by White who sprinted to pay dirt
from close on forty yards sealed the victory 20 – 0 in a tight and entertaining game.
Once again the Blitz demonstrated the improvement that was expected of them and the future looks good for
them. The Exiles now need to repeat the win at London to have any chance of seeing play off action. If
they stick to what they do best they must have a realistic shot.
