Once again the Trojans proved what a good side they are running the South West Conference Champions
close until the fourth quarter and conclusively proving that had the original fixtures stood they would
have more than likely have secured a playoff berth by now.
The home side got off to the ideal start catching the visitors napping when Daniel Conroy gathered the
opening kick off and outpaced the Trojan’s special teams from a little over eighty yards out to notch
the first six points. With the Knights running in the extra two points the undefeated Farnham side were
8 – 0 ahead within the first few seconds of the game. From there on there was little to choose between
the outfits, a common theme in their previous game, with the Trojans showing their spirit and drive.
They closed the first quarter still trailing at 8 – 0 and ruing their earlier carelessness.
Knights quarterback Nick Olive connected with Chris Hobbs on a fifty-three yard scoring strike to dent
the visitors’ confidence a little and with another two point run added to the score the home side moved
out to 16 – 0. A score they were to maintain as the half closed.
The visitors clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter. Nathan Ryan and Kieran Askew
combined to sack the Knight quarterback. Charlie Noreledge was the first to react scooping up the ball
and scooting it back forty yards to pay dirt. With the Midlanders adding the extra points they reduced
the arrears to 16 – 8 and were very much still in the game at the conclusion of the third quarter.
In the fourth the larger Knights squad took full advantage of their numbers with their running game
beginning to make inroads into a valiant Tamworth defense. First George Overhill blasted in from six
yards out to nudge the Farnham side out to 22 – 8 and ease the pressure on his team. A tremendous
Gareth Davies gallop from over the halfway line finally saw off the plucky Trojans as they eventually
cruised out to a 28 – 8 victory that was perhaps closer than the score line might indicate.
The Knights can now rest and plan, their 100% record means they will have home field advantage
throughout the playoffs. If the Kent Exiles over come The London Blitz they will travel to the Knight
in the hope of denting their unbeaten record. As fate would have it, if the Blitz win then the Trojans
will be repeating the journey and justifiably confident they are capable of causing a shock.
