Tamworth Trojans 0 v 20 PA Knights

Playing for the second consecutive week the Knights travelled to Tamworth to take on the Trojans in the battle of the “new boys”. Starting the game in light rain the weather turned against both teams within minutes and the entire match was played in a torrential downpour. Players found difficulty in staying on their feet while passing the ball was a near impossibility

Not surprisingly the first quarter was scoreless although the Trojans did have success moving the ball and even completed passes against a Knights side that seemed to have problems shaking off the effects of their journey.

In the second the Knights finally got into some sort of rhythm and onto the scoreboard following a four-yard blast by John Hatcher. With the two-point attempt being unsuccessful the Trojans, involved in their first ever youth kitted game, headed to the dry of the dressing room six points adrift.

The third saw some lively play by both sides and despite several brave attempts as possession was exchanged the Tamworth side were unable to get back on level terms. Daniel Appleyard burst in from some fifteen yards out to extend the visitors advantage and ease the Knights to a 12 – 0 lead as the third period expired

The unforgiving rain continued to hamper both sides but not their spirits in the fourth with the visitors finally sealing their first victory of the season. Appleyard scampered in from five yards out and with the two point extra being added they eased to the final 0 – 20 score.

At no point were the Trojans overwhelmed and were both committed and dedicated to the cause. With a little luck, and weather that will suit their game a little better they will grow to be a competitive outfit as the season progresses.
