Kent Exiles 42 v 0 Essex Spartans.

The Exiles notched their second victory of the 2006 campaign with a comfortable win over new boys Essex Spartans.

Luke Aylward got the home side off to a flying start, darting in for the first score early in the opening quarter from nine yards out. Tim Ayres outpaced the Exiles defense from twenty-four yards to extend the lead. Tom Taylor notched the extra two-point kick as the home side cruised to a 14 - 0 lead by the end of the first period.

The Spartans found it hard to move the ball effectively in the second although they played with tremendous spirit and enthusiasm. Kent however took advantage whenever they could and Ollie Gould hit Rory O'Neill in the end zone from close on thirty yards to stretch the lead. With Taylor's kick again being good the Exiles moved out to a comfortable 22 - 0 lead. Max Engell cut his way into the end zone from six yards away before the end of the half to leave the home side almost out of sight at 28 - 0 by half time.

The Spartans fought tooth and nail to prevent the game from turning into a rout and only another run by Aylward, along with Taylor's kick, once more stretching the lead by a further two to 36 - 0 did them any further damage in the third.

In the fourth, Gould connected with Luke Grundy for a fifteen yard scoring strike to nudge the Spartans closer to despair and give the home team a slightly flattering victory. Once again the Essex based outfit proved that with a little more experience over the season and perhaps a slightly larger squad, they will progress and be able to compete. The Exiles who have already undertaken that learning curve and have built a solid and well disciplined organisation over the last two years look to be in a position to challenge for honours this year.
