another step nearer retaining their Northern Conference title when they downed the Rams in a game that
was played in the true spirit of youth football and was a pleasure to watch.
While both sides traded possession throughout the first quarter, the home side opened the scoring in the
second, on a Kieran Phillips’ eighteen-yard dash. Derek Russell proved as reliable as ever with the
two-point conversion to ease Glasgow to an 8 – 0 lead at the half.
The Rams, always noted for their well drilled offense over the years proved they have found a defense
this season. Ian McCoy scooped up a Tigers fumble and took it in for a score. With the two-point extra
attempt being unsuccessful the Rams found themselves very much in the game at only 8 – 6 adrift as the
third quarter came to a close.
McCoy repeated his third quarter heroics in the fourth, once again recovering a fumble and taking it in
for a further six points as the Rams wrestled the advantage away from the home side. It took a stunning
sixty-one yard run from Jason Gillespie to set up a three yard Kris Kennedy quarterback sneak swing the
score back to 14 – 12 in favour of the Tigers. Russell nailed the two point extra kick to add to the
slender lead, but it proved enough as the game expired
If the quality, intensity and competitive nature of this game is anything to go by then the Northern
conference is going to be spell binding until the end of the season. The Rams look to be a real force
again this season and that can only be good for the future of football. The recently hinted imminent demise
of the Rams seems to have been grossly exaggerated.
