Glasgow Tigers 34 v 0 Clyde Valley Hawks

The Hawks once more travelled to Cambuslang on Sunday to take on title contenders Glasgow Tigers. The last meeting between the two sides resulted in a solitary field goal by the Tigers being the only score. Although the final score line suggests this was a one sided affair it was anything but.

Once again it was both teams' defences who dictated the game and held the first quarter scoreless. The deadlock was broken in the second period when Tiger's David Carney Junior intercepted a wayward pass setting up a five yard Scott Watson rumble for the opening score. Derek Russell slotted the ball through the uprights for the extra points to bring the lead to 8 - 0. Following some powerful running from Hawks' Scott Findlay, Glasgow's' Brodie McDonald snared another interception, which set up Tiger's second score of the day. Kyle Wilson was on the end of a Kris Kennedy thirty-five yard pass for the touchdown. The sure boot of Derek Russell scored the extra points as the home side eased to 16 - 0. Glasgow continued to pile on the agony when following a second Carney interception a forty-yard pass from Kris Kennedy to Kyle Wilson added to their tally. Derek Russell made sure of the extra points. The first half closed with the visitors 24 - 0 in arrears thanks to three turnovers.

Following half time the Clyde Valley defence stepped up a gear and shut down the Glasgow attack. In the fourth, Glasgow took advantage of another Hawks' error when Malcolm Pickard reeled in an interception, his side's fifth of the day This time it was Kris Kennedy's turn to keep the ball and scamper in from the four yards out. Derek Russell notched the extra points to pad the lead to 32 - 0. The Tigers completed their victory when Alan Bodel downed the Hawks Quarterback in the endzone for a safety and another two points.

The result gives the Tigers the Conference for the second consecutive season but has not dimmed the Hawks play-off chances in the slightest. Both sides have to meet the North Lanarkshire Rams over the next month and a victory by either side will secure the spot for the Hawks. The Rams of course will know that two victories for themselves will see them claiming the final play-off berth so there is all still to play for.
