This was a must win game for both sides; with the Hawks being the victor in their previous meeting the
Rams were looking to even up the score and force themselves into playoff contention.
With both defences proving strong it was the Rams who broke the deadlock at the end of the first quarter
when Colin Davies connected on a twenty-five yard pass and scampered to the end zone for the opening
six points. The extra points conversion attempt fell incomplete to leave the visitors narrowly ahead.
It proved t be a lead they preserved throughout the second period and their season revival looked very
much on the cards.
The Rams added to their tally in the third when Jamie Lane overpowered Hawks QB in the end zone for a
safety and a further two points. The shock was enough to ignite the Hawks, who suddenly came to life in
the fourth quarter. Kyle Matheson took a handoff and went on a tackle breaking run for the touchdown,
which drew the home side closer. Scott Findlay tied the score when he connected on a pass for the
extra points. The Hawks defence then held firm and forced the Rams to give up the ball. Kyle Matheson
added his second of the day when he rumbled over for the go ahead score. With the extra point attempt
being unsuccessful The Hawks closed out the game with a 14 – 8 victory despite the Rams best efforts to
wrestle back the advantage.
The victory has virtually assured the Hawks a spot in the play offs and probably ensured that the
Glasgow Tigers qualify too. The sides meet at Glasgow on 2ne July in what might prove to be a
Championship decider.
