Perfect weather football resulted in a highly entertaining, tough, physical game between two competitive
sides. Bristol opened the scoring on just their third play from scrimmage with a forty-one yard sprint
from rookie Erich Dune. Owain Chambers slotted through the conversion to give the home side an early
8 - 0 lead. If the Aztecs thought this was going to be a stroll they were sadly mistaken as the Trojans
took to the air for the remainder of the quarter in a bid to get back into the game. The Aztec defense
stifled the impressive aerial attack with both Alex "Busted" Johnson and Josh Ennew snaring
interceptions as the Tamworth QB was put under pressure.
All credit to the Trojans as their defense stiffened in the second period, preventing the home side
from making sustained drives, although they seemed to gaining the battle for field position. With the
Tamworth defense on the field for so long it was inevitable that eventually something would have to
give. Stef Williams finally added to the home side’s lead with a blast from close on forty yards out.
Half time came with the vastly more experienced Bristol team holding a 14 – 0 advantage but the
Midlands based outfit were not out of the game by any means.
Half time adjustments from both teams saw a very defensive second half with Tamworth scoring a safety
as Bristol fumbled the ball near their own end zone and had to dive onto he ball to avoid surrendering
the touchdown.
Although very much a defensive battle the game was more about good defense than misfiring offense, with
plenty of solid runs and bone jarring hits keeping the entertainment level high.
The fourth quarter followed the pattern of the third until with under two minutes to go Owain Chambers
capped a seventy-yard drive with a field goal to finally seal the victory for the Aztecs with a 17 – 2
score line.
Once again the Trojan have proved they are moving in the right direction. There has not been one game
so far this season where they have not be in with a realistic chance of winning. They will continue to
improve under the careful guidance of their coaches. The Aztecs are seeking higher honours this year
and will be keen to take on Kent Exiles next week in the battle for top spot in the English Conference.
