Bristol Aztecs 22 v 6 P A Knights

The Knights visit to the West Country gave the all-conquering Aztecs an early shock. Daniel Appleyard romped home from over forty yards to open the visitors account. Charles Baker stretched to block the conversion as the Knights took a 6 - 0 lead. A forty-yard burst by Eric Dune set up Stef Williams on a four yard run to maintain the latter's record of scoring in every game this season. Owain Chambers, rapidly becoming one of the more consistent youth kickers, slotted home the two-point conversion and edge the Aztecs out to an 8 - 6 lead by the end of the opening quarter.

Midway through the second period Williams added to his season's impressive tally, scampering in from twenty yards out to nudge the Bristol side into a 14 - 6 advantage as the home side began to get a grip in the sweltering thirty-plus degree heat. With no further score for the half both sides sought the relief of the shade and water bottles during the interval.

While both sides had some success in moving the ball during the third. Defences always managed to stiffen at the critical moments to prevent a further score. It was not until a blistering fifty-yard dash by Liam Miller and the habitual Chambers conversion late in the quarter that the Aztecs put the game beyond doubt.

The heat finally took its toll in the fourth as two tired teams gave their all but could not add to the score. In a wonderful gesture of sportsmanship both sides warmed down together as the Knights continue to earn respect in their rookie season back in youth football.

With the victory the Aztecs claim a play-off spot for the third consecutive season. At this rate of improvement the Knights will be staking their claim next year.
