Bristol Aztecs 11 v 38 London Olympians

The Aztecs stumbled at the final hurdle for the second successive season with this defeat to the Olympians whom now go on to take on Glasgow Tigers in BYAFA Bowl XVII on 11th Sept at the Ram Stadium Dewsbury.

Once again it was Devar Gayle for the visitors, adding to his own formidable season, as he led the way when he blasted in from twenty-five yards out to open the visitors account. Before the end of the opening quarter he had repeated the exercise from forty-eight yards and with both extra point conversions being good the Olympians swapped ends 16 - 0 ahead.

Gayle would have demoralised lesser sides than the Aztecs with a blistering seventy-six yard dash with the extra two for once failing, moving the London based side out to 22 - 0 but Will Parkhouse nailed a twenty-one yard field goal to keelp Bristol in with a shout. Before the half expired Gayle notched his fourth score of the day with a fourteen-yard dart and with the conversion again being good the Olympians had a commanding 30 -3 advantage.

After around a ninety minute delay while the ambulance was absent, the Aztecs breathed some life into their game recovering the on side kick off and eventually setting up Stef Williams for a four yard scoring burst. Parkhouse's kick claimed the extra two to drag the Aztecs back to 30 - 11 as they tried to recover their first half lost ground.

With the game well into the fourth quarter Ariel Mofondo barrelled his was in from six yards and with the extra two added the Olympians eased themselves into the Championship game. The Aztecs can look back on another highly successful season and were unlucky to come up against a well-drilled and talented Olympian outfit. If they continue to build and progress as they have done over the last two years then they will continue to be a dominant force for years to come. In the meantime the Olympians have Ram Stadium and the Glasgow Tigers to look forward to.
