Glasgow Tigers 54 v 0 Clyde Valley Hawks

The Tigers eased their way through to the BYAFA Bowl XVII behind the powerful ground game of Ian Dick who clocked up a remarkable 245 yards on the day and bought his season total to 1118 yards. The score line was a little harsh on a competitive Clyde Valley outfit who fought magnificently and with spirit throughout.

The blustery conditions didn't help either side in the first quarter, but the Tigers, using their ground game to advantage took the lead midway through when Dick bounced outside from behind left tackle, weaved his way through a melee of defenders from twenty-one yards out to score. Derek Russell split the uprights for the extra two points to ease the nervy home side to an 8 - 0 cushion.

A nine yard Dick burst behind some fierce blocking added a further six in the second to extend the advantage to 14 - 0. Kris Kennedy found Kyle Wilson over the middle from twenty-one yards, side stepping the last defender to add a further six with Russell booting the extra two. Despite finding themselves twenty-two adrift the Hawks did not seem out of the game and within the last two minutes of the game drove from their own eighteen to threaten the Tigers' line before eventually stalling.

The Hawks came out rejuvenated in the third, their defense driving the Tigers back to their own one before Dick gave the Glasgow side room to punt. The quarter rapidly became one of field possession and it was not until late that the Tigers put the game beyond doubt when Russell snared an eleven yard Kennedy pass all alone in the endzone. Russell's extra two-point kick was blocked, recovered in the field by a Hawks' defender who was promptly hit into the end zone. The officials awarded the two points to Kyle West, the reason being unclear from the sideline and the Tigers were home and dry at 30 - 0.

The fourth period was a riot of Tigers' scoring with Dick weaving his way in from forty-three yards, Russell latching onto an yard Kennedy strike and finally Dick nipping in from the three in the dying minutes. The reliable boot of Russell adding the extra two points on each occasion as they reeled off twenty-four unanswered points against a tired and injury hit Clyde Valley defense.

The Tigers march on to face the Olympians at Ram stadium Dewsbury on Sept 11th. The Hawks will take the winter to rebuild and with many of their highly successful Falcons side due to move up will rightly face 2006 in a very confident mood.
