The Olympians, after a couple of year's absence from the BYAFA Youth Kitted league, burst into the new season in dramatic style over a Pathfinders side that many considered to be dark horses for the Southern Conference.
The London side burst into a fourteen point advantage in the first quarter behind a powerful running game, which would eventually notch up over three hundred yards on the day. Devar Gayle opened the visitors account with a sweep right to dart in from thirty-five yards out, and then burst off tackle from forty-five yards to notch his second of the afternoon. Deon Grant repeated the play to add the extra two points as the plucky home side found themselves 14 - 0 in arrears by the end of the first period.
Deon Grant blasted in from twenty-five yards to pad the lead before a thirty-five yard field goal gave the Pathfinders their first points of the season and reduced the arrears to 20 - 3 as the first half closed.
With Milton Keynes suffering injuries to stars Jamie Nelson and Timmy Dada, along with several minor knocks the Olympians continued to pound at the home side. Despite some fierce Pathfinder defence Gayle helped himself to a sixty-yard sweep for his hat trick and then followed up another off tackle scamper from sixty yards out as he passed two hundred yards for the day. With both two point conversions being successful the Olympians cruised into a 36 - 3 advantage by the end of the third.
Two Alex George dives from fifteen and twenty-five yards, with one conversion being successful rounded off the visitors scoring as the injury ravaged Pathfinders still battled whole heartedly to compete.
The Pathfinders will regroup from this game and go onto win more than they lose this season. The Olympians' coaches initially thought their young side was not ready for the season. They may have to now start considering a play-off berth.
