The Olympians kept up the pressure on Southern Conference leaders Bristol whom they face next week with this victory over the Exiles, but did not have things their own way by any means
George Pollard got the visitors off to ah early start, when the fullback blasted in from two yards out in the first quarter to give them a 6 - 0 advantage. Dan Smith bought the Exiles back into contention in the second with a fifteen yard scoring scamper and then promptly booted the two extra points to give them the lead. The Kent side, like in so many of their games this season, were giving a good account of themselves and blunting the Olympians famed speedy ground game. It was not until Devar Gayle finally broke clear from twenty-five yards on a full back lead later in the quarter that the much fancied London side managed to restore their lead, heading into the halftime break with a 12 - 8 lead.
Despite holding their own in the third, the Exiles found themselves a further six points in arrears when a lead toss once again sprung Gayle to speed his way in to score from over forty yards out.
While Kent fought their way back into the game it was down to Gayle again to ease the Olympians afternoon when he burst off tackle and outpaced the defense from forty yards to seal the victory.
The O's have to beat the Bristol Aztecs by a margin of more than thirty two points to carry off the Southern Conference title. Whatever the outcome of the game the playoff for the right to meet the winners of the Northern Conference playoff game at the Ram Stadium on September 11th will take place at Bristol.
The Exiles will have another shot at appearing in the Plate Final for the second year in a row.
