Anyone who writes the Hawks playoff chances off does so at their peril. They travelled to Port Glasgow on Sunday to take on the young and inexperienced Sharks. Receiving the ball from the opening kick off, deep in their own half, the offensive line protected well to allow some power running from Gary Clark but the drive stalled on the Sharks thirty-yard line and Inverclyde took over the ball. However a strong Clyde Valley defense forced the Sharks to punt the ball. Both teams were unable to move the ball before the first quarter drew to a close.
Gary Clark opened Hawks scoring when he barrelled over from the one-yard line. The extra points conversion failed. Although Shark's Ross Cuffe & Brian McFerren made some positive running yards Inverclyde found it difficult to break down the robust Hawks defense. Clyde Valley threatened once more when quarterback David Orr connected with Darren Murray for a forty-yard gain but Shark's David Carney intercepted the next pass. The half expired as the game Sharks tried reduce the arrears, with Clyde Valley holding a slender 6 - 0 advantage.
The second half opened with the Hawks Scott Finlay recovering their own kick off to give his team possession. Once again Gary Clark went to work and raced up field behind some strong blocking. He finished this off with a four-yard scamper for his second score of the day. A swarming Sharks special team blocked the extra point kick. Following a trade of possessions the game ended after a non-player incident.
Clyde Valley have every chance of still reaching the playoffs with their final two games being against the inconsistent Wolverines, while the latter still have to go to Glasgow to take on the table topping Tigers. As normal, thanks go to Hawks' sponsors Rollon, D&J MacKenzie and Royal Mail.
