The Tigers moved into outright leadership of the Northern conference with this victory over new boys Inverclyde
Sharks who remained stubbornly in the game up until the fourth quarter, before the vastly more experienced Tigers
sealed the victory.
Ian “Sparky” Dick opened the home sides account with a sixty-two yard run in the first quarter with the deadly
boot of Derek Russell nailing the extra two. With the Sharks defense holding firm it was not until the second
period that Dick again scampered to pay dirt from twenty-two yards away with Russell again adding the extra two.
Thomas “T Mac” MacMillan then picked a fumble on the Sharks three to rumble in for a score with Russell once more
adding the extra points. The Glasgow outfit took a 24 – 0 lead into the locker room at the half as the young
Shark side refused to give way.
A Dick twelve-yard blast with the kick being blocked proved to be the only score in the third as the
Inverclyde side hung on.
A Raef Shammugan two yard touch down run followed by a Dick twenty-yard dart added a further sixteen points with
Russell resuming his accurate kicking. Rising Sharks star Jason Gillespie pulled a score back when he sped his
way in to prove what potential the Sharks have. A further thirty-three yard run with Russell collecting the extra
two, and a Kyle Wilson to Kris Kennedy ended the scoring.
The Sharks showed tremendous spirit throughout and should take away the thought that the side is young and will
only grow and mature over the next two years and will be one of the premier sides in the North.
The Tigers, who were in the same position three years ago can testify to that as they seek to claim a playoff
berth in the next few weeks.
