North Lanarkshire Rams 43 v 22 Harrogate Hawks

The Hawks became the first English youth team to travel to Scotland to play a league game this season and were involved in a superb display of youth football.

The home side, normally slow starters began strongest, pounding themselves to a 22-6 first quarter lead. On their first play from scrimmage, Jonathan Ewing burst up the middle untouched from thirty yards out. Paul McGovern added the conversion. After a firm defensive stand the Rams again showed their power on the ground, this time Adam Donaldson scampered home from midfield. Again McGovern converted. After another successful defensive stand QB David O'Rourke found David Hare open in the end zone to leave the home side up by 22-0. The Hawks offence managed to find their rhythm late on in the first quarter when QB Mike Martinez hit Mike Ball from 40 yards out to reduce the Rams lead.

After Hunter had picked off a wayward pass, the Hawks offence drove commandingly downfield behind the solid running of Watson and the receiving of Wells to allow Watson to dive in from the one. Picken added the two-point conversion to. Again the Hawks defence forced a turnover and after avoiding the rush, Martinez threw on the run to find a leaping Wells in the corner of the end zone from thirty-seven yards out. Picken again added the two as the Harrogate Side reduced the arrears. North Lanarkshire restored their lead before the half with two quick scores. Firstly a fumble recovery led to a seven yard run from Kyle Matheson and on their following possession, Donaldson sprinted home from thirty yards to leave the home side up 34-22 at the break.

Defenses stiffened throughout the second half but the Rams managed to rise to the challenge and seal this victory. Quarterback O'Rourke found McTague for another score to add to the lead before McGovern scored the last points of the day on a twenty four yard field goal leaving the Rams with a hard fought and thoroughly deserved 43-22 win.
