Kent Brewers 34 v 54 Bristol Aztecs

The Brewers jumped out to a quick lead with speedster Sean Ardis opening Kent's account with a thirty-four yard scamper and Olly Barrett blocking the kick. It was Barrett who found the end zone for the Aztecs on the next drive after some power running from Lewis Nixon and Nick Proctor got him close. The Aztecs kick was scuffed and missed. The Kent side exploded offensively with two quick scores. Ardis latched onto a Griffiths pass from thirty-eight yards with the extra two-point kick being good. Great Britain lineman Olly Rick ran onto the field late only to find a stray pass sailing in his direction. He grabbed it and went forty-five for a bizarre score that had both sides laughing. Ardis nailed the extra two points for the Brewers to hold a 22 - 6 at the end of the quarter.

Mid way through the second period the Aztecs went on the rampage with five unanswered scores. Nick Shotton-Gale was first into the end zone from thirty-four yards on an excellent run, set up by some fine blocks. Lewis Nixon slotted the extra two as the Bristol side narrowed the gap to 22 - 14. Craig Wilkinson forced and recovered a fumble for the West Country outfit allowing Ed Collins to blast in from the three out after his forty-five yard burst had set it up. Nixon once more added the two to tie the game 22 - 22. With the Brewers forced to punt on their next drive, Shotton-Gale collected the ball and outpaced the home side from sixty yards for the score. Nixon's kick was again good as the visitors turned the game around to lead 22 - 30 at the half.

Bristol's scoring continued in the third quarter with two TD passes of eight and ten yards from Gill to Adam Stenlake. Both kicks proved unsuccessful as the Aztecs stretched their lead to 22 - 42. The Brewers were not to be outdone however. Determined running by gritty back Pat Turner from twelve yards out reduced the arrears to 28 - 42.

Ryan Tandy popped up with his second pick of the day for the Aztecs, taking this one to glory as they maintained their twenty-point margin.

The sides exchanged scores before the game was done. Shotton-Gale scampered in from twenty-three yards for his third score of the day, while Turner notched his second, this time from the five.
Another great advert for youth football finally ended 34 - 54 in favour of the Aztecs. Thanks must go to the Kent Exiles seniors who officiated the game in a unbiased and even handed fashion and the Aztecs would also like to thank the Brewers for their friendliness and hospitality on the day.
