Clyde Valley Hawks 40 v 12 North Lanarkshire Rams

Defending National Champions Clyde Valley opened their BYAFA season with a comprehensive victory of their closest Scottish rivals in recent years. A Mark McKenzie fifty-five yard strike to Tam Chapman gave the home side the lead with Lee Collins holding onto the two point extra pass to pad the lead to 8 ? 0. Craig McMillan then burst in from eight yards out to ease the Hawks further ahead and with Tam Chapman kicking the extra two the Hawks had a comfortable 16?0 advantage at the close of the first quarter.

Like in so many of their previous encounters, the Rams were spurred into action once they had fallen behind and as Adam Donaldson dashed in from the two the revival looked to be on its way. The two-point attempt cannoned off the upright to deny the Rams the opportunity to reduce the arrears even further. Craig Macmillan restored the advantage when he scampered in from the thirty-five yards out and with Chapman once again nailing the kick it looked as if Clyde Valley were well in the driving seat. Once more North Lanarkshire rallied with speedster Donaldson outpacing the defense to claim a sixty-six yard score. With the extra point attempt being unsuccessful the Hawks were still in a 24 ? 12 lead at the half.

Clyde Valley defense closed up shop for the second half. Andy Reynolds scooted in from the sixteen during the third quarter with Chapman securing the extra two points. A twelve yard pass from Richard Campbell to Ryan McCluskey in the fourth put the Hawks out of reach and Chapman completed the afternoon?s scoring when he once again notched the two extra points.
