London Blitz 50 v 18 Kent Brewers

New boys Kent Brewers put up a solid performance against the vastly more experienced Blitz side, for whom Chris Onliogwu gained over 200 yards on the ground for the second successive week.

Onliogwu broke the deadlock early on with a nine-yard dash to give the home side the lead. A 71-yard run by rookie Will Bryce increased the lead and with a Felix Carraseo pass to Chris Onliogwu sealing the extra two points it looked as if the Blitz had a grip on the game.

The Brewers however stormed back through Sean Ardis who outpaced the London defense and score the Brewers first ever league touchdown to end the quarter 14 ? 6 in arrears.

Pat Turner bought the Kent side to within two points with a blistering fifty-three yard punt return midway through the second period before Onliogwu notched his second touchdown of the day, this time from 68 yards to leave the Blitz with a 20 ? 12 advantage at the half.

The third quarter belonged to the London outfit with Arial Mofondo crashing his way into the end zone, firstly from forty-two yards and then from fifteen. With Carraseo and Onliogwu both converting a score each the Blitz looked untouchable at 36 ? 12.

Still the Brewers would not lie down and Alex Goodenaugh danced his way through tackles to bring them six points nearer. Chris Onliogwu racked up his third touchdown of the afternoon when he hurried to pay dirt from sixty-three yards. With Bryce once more blazing in from nearly sixty yards out, it was left to Mofondo to close off the scoring when he ran in the two-point conversion.

The Brewers were by no means disgraced by this performance and proved that they will remain competitive throughout the season. To gain over a hundred and fifty yards on the ground in their first game was no mean achievement.
