MK Pathfinders 12 v 40 Lancashire Wolverines

The Wolverines kept on course for the Northern Conference playoffs after producing on of their most lethargic first half performances in recent years although credit has to go the vastly improving Pathfinders who posed them many problems. Timi Dada put the home side into the lead and became the first offensive player to score on the Wolverines much vaunted defensive this season, when he darted in from nine yards. Sam Dunn replied for the visitors when he went off left tackle, stepped inside an over pursuing defense and went in virtually untouched from twelve yards out tying the scores at 6 – 6 as the quarter expired. A Matt Lord twelve-yard blast took the Wolverines into the lead, but Paul Willis blocked the conversion attempt.

The Pathfinders’ confidence was not dented and a steady drive was finished off when Rupert Talboys pulled in a Simms pass beating three Wolverine defenders to the ball. The half, played in sweltering heat ended with the scores tied at 12 – 12.

While neither side managed to score in the third, the Wolverines were beginning to improve their field position all the time. David Mead connected with Sam Fogg from twenty yards to give the Lancashire outfit the go ahead score and with Marc Liptrot kicking the extra two they moved into a 20 – 12 lead. Lord ran in from 20 yards for his second score of the game as the Pathfinders offense spluttered and the Wolverines strengthened their grip. With one of the two Liptrot kicks also being successful the Pathfinders found themselves 34 –12 adrift when Lord completed his hat trick with a 19 yard run. The final score of the day was left to Sam Fogg who collected a punt on his own thirty-four yard line and swept down the left hand touchline to score, totally untouched and leave the final score at 12 – 40

Next week the Wolverines entertain the North Lanarkshire Rams for a place in the Northern Conference play offs while the Pathfinders can reflect on their first season with some pride at the measure of their improvement. They can go into the off season with increasing player numbers and look well equipped for when BYAFA move to 11 man football next season.
