Clyde Valley Hawks 8 v 0 Lancashire Wolverines

The Hawks virtually secured home field advantage and the Northern Conference title with this sterling defensive battle. Without Quarterback Ben Hann who was away on holiday, the Hawks like the Wolverines found it virtually impossible to move the ball in a repeat of last season’s Championship game. Tam Chapman, who has proved most versatile as the season progressed, stood in at QB and gave a decent account of himself.

The Hawks attempted a field goal in the second quarter only to see it fall short and keep the sides tied scoreless at the end of the first half.

Clyde Valley finally got the break through in the third when Gary Clark stripped the ball from Sam Dunn and took it back thirty-nine yards for the score. Chapman added the extra two with his normal effective boot and the game was over with a quarter still to go.

The two teams look set to meet again in the play offs. The Hawks should be boosted by the return of Ben Hann at quarterback for that game, but lose Lee Collins who is the second Hawks player to head stateside for a shot at High School Football in a week. The Wolverines find themselves in the unique position of not conceding one defensive touchdown all season and yet may have to settle for second place. They will though be buoyed by having a run of games which should ensure that their offense begins to fire on all cylinders after such a protracted lay off. The playoff battle looks like it will be a tremendous affair and far too close to call.
