Bristol Aztecs 27 v 0 London Blitz

The Aztecs took the Southern Conference with this win over the Blitz by virtue of their better head to head points against record with the Bath Cardinals. Ironically by defeating the London outfit they also secured the Cardinals place in the play offs so the teams are set for a decider having won one each during the regular season..

The home side did not have things all their own way in the first quarter as the Blitz fought to contain them and the sides remained tied at the end of it.

Liam Laurence broke the game open in the second period with a dazzling seventy-seven yard run with Lewis Nixon kicking the extra two points to edge Bristol into an 8 – 0 lead. As the visitors drove the ball downfield Craig Wilkinson snared a wayward pass and outpaced the opposition from the best part of forty y ards to increase the Aztecs’ lead. With Nixon once again nailing the extra two points the home side took a 16 – 0 lead into the break.

Once again the game remained tight during the third with only a Nixon field goal separating the teams and with the Blitz still threatening. An Anthony “Bobby” Amissah twenty-five yard scamper in the fourth finally sealed the victory with Nixon again slotting the extra points to keep his record perfect for the day.

The Blitz, who are a far better side than their record suggests, now go on to play the Cardinals in their last game of the season. If they can reach the standard they had at the start of the year they have a realistic chance of producing a shock.
